Task 3: Tailored Midi Dress

This is quite possibly in one of my favourite workwear dresses of all time. If you want to do business formal with a personality and added femininity then this is one of my top picks. I often feel that when we think of any type of formal professional wear, the first thing that springs to mind would be some sort of basic grey, black or navy suit - as if you're almost not allowed to be less uniformed in order to be taken seriously. This seems to have created the culture of most limiting and classic "workwear rail" in department stores when it comes to corporate style clothing; which I doubt hugely appeal to most millennial women of 2017.

I love the fact that this dress is not too garish in colour pallet. The chic high neck and midi length add the sophistication required and last but certainly not least the feminine and fitting tailored shape with the striped design add that element of style.
The reality is that for something like this you do sometimes have to shop around a little as I feel brands (at least at high street level) are yet to consistently find this crucial balance in business formal, affordability, and style as shown in this example. It may sound obvious to some as it is such a popular outlet but your best bet of stumbling across this type of work wear star buy is ASOS. Your only limitation is that not everything which filters through "work wear" or "pencil dress" or "midi dress" is necessarily appropriate and you still find yourself sieving through the cocktail dresses.
My way of finding this dress in particular? The filter "wiggle dress" on ASOS.
Happy shopping!

Hi Joanna – I think you’re doing great and I’m so glad I can follow your style on this blog! Could you please let me know where you got the waist belt that you wore with the H&M stripy dress?
